Morning workshops

1. Journalistic intercultural media competencies.

With: International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), International Media Working Group Against Racism and Xenophobia (IMRAX), European Journalism Centre (EJC), Journalist organisations, Schools of Journalism.

Aim: Definition of intercultural media competencies for journalists and methods for implementation.

Co-ordination: IFJ.

2. Annual monitoring on media and diversity research progress

With: University of Rome La Sapienza, University of Amsterdam, EUMC, RAXEN National Focal Points of the EUMC, European Institute for the Media (EIM).

Aim: State of the art in the media and diversity research, definition of necessary annual monitoring and research, establishment of European network of media diversity researchers.

Co-ordination: ETNEQUAL project

3. Roadmap for change concerning media for national minorities and minority languages

With: Open Society Institute (OSI), OSCE, Human Rights Network, University of Amsterdam, OL/MCM, Council of Europe, Roma Centre, Media Diversity Institute,

Aim: Implementation strategy to follow up the OSCE recommendations concerning media and minority groups and languages

Co-ordination: OSCE

4. The role of workers union as a "change agent.

With: Broadcasting Entertainment Cinematograph and Theatre Union (BECTU,  UK), Information Network for Integration Policy and Ethnic Minorities (KIEM, the Netherlands), VERDI and other media workers unions.

Aim: To formulate strategies and methods on how to attract young minority media professionals to the unions and how to make the unions more diversity minded from within, start of European co-operation between unions

5. Branch organisations, knowledge centres and vocational training:

NVQ's (National Vocational Qualifications) and vocational structures.

With: Skillset (UK), AIM (Germany), ABC (the Netherlands), media training centres, media employers' organisations

Aim: to formulate obstacles and changes for ethnic minority media professionals to enter and stay in the media industry and to formulate joint strategies and methods to encourage vocational orientation among youngsters of ethnic minority groups

6. Role, skills and tasks of diversity desks in national public channels.

With: EBU, diversity officers of SR, SVT, YLE, DR, WDR, NOS, BBC, VRT, FR3, RAI, ERT and others

Aim: to formulate both obstacles and chances for the implementation of diversity policies in broadcasting, to develop a joint "roadmap for change" and to start an EBU-working committee.

7. Programme-making in the new multicultural society.

With: Programme makers, EBU-Intercultural Programming Group, ERT, RAI, Multicultural Media Masterclasses (Equal project), network of the Prix Europa IRIS and representatives from major news programmes

Aim: to redefine producers' guidelines, formulated by Public Broadcasting for Multicultural Europe (PBME) and EBU in 1994

8. Minority Community Media.

With: Community Media Association (CMA, UK), Indvandrer TV (Denmark), Organisation for Hindu media (OHM, the Netherlands), Multicultural Dutch Television (MTNL), FunX (Multicultural Urban Radio, The Netherlands), Migra Online Immigrant Information Agency (Italy), national co-ordinators of Manifesto network

Aim: Strategies to achieve the recognition of Minority Community Media as public service media and as important participants to implement the social inclusion policies.

9. Intercultural media education for youngsters with minority background

10. Minority NGO's as "change agents".
